Sussex Kings of Harmony is the male voice chorus, showcasing the art of barbershop-style singing – four-part a cappella with the high tenor part above the melody line. The club was formed in the early 2000s from the merger of two long-established local choruses. Drawing members from every corner of the county, they enchant audiences throughout the southern region of England. The men are active participants in local and national competitions, including the annual chorus competition of The British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS). After winning the Most Improved Chorus award in 2019, in 2022 they achieved their highest-ever score and matched it in 2023.
Sussex A Cappella, the ladies’ chorus, made its debut in January 2018 in response to the wishes of women who had previously taken part in the ‘Sing with Us for Christmas’ programme and who aspired to continue their musical journey beyond the holiday season. In a remarkably short time, the chorus transformed from its humble origins to captivating public performances, underwent a name change, and expanded its repertoire.
The Sussex Harmonisers organisation is a registered charity and regularly offers opportunities for non-members to sing and develop their vocal skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
